The Weekend Eudemon

This will be the first full Weekend Eudemon in a couple of weeks. My household has fully settled in after the routine-rattling holiday season, the Christmas decorations are back in storage, and my study is again clean--no presents, manger scenes, or clutter. I love the Christmas season, but I love getting back to normal, too.

I spent much of yesterday in meetings, then headed to the drinking club with Marie and my folks. We stayed just over an hour, then came home to watch a movie with the kids. It was a rough week at the office. When combined with the handful of pilsners, I ended up falling asleep on the couch. Which was fine. The movie was bad.

For Christmas, my parents bought me a 20-inch flat screen TV for my bedroom. It's their attempt to stem my child production (still at the seven, by the way, and Marie isn't pregnant). I spend about 15 minutes getting ready for work in the morning (shaving, dressing, putting numb chucks in my pocket, making the bed, etc.) I used to listen to ESPN radio, but it was mostly commercials. Now I've discovered "Fox and Friends" on FoxNews. In twelve minutes (7:00 to 7:12), I get an overview of the day's news, one feature story, and a chuckle or two. I typically don't like talking heads, but I find the hosts--Brian Kilmeade, E.D. Hill, and Steve Doocy--entertaining.

I'm the type of guy who can be won over with a great line. The first day I watched the show, Doocy was telling the others that he had quite the experience the day before. He said, "Last night, my sixteen-year-old daughter and I . . .". He paused a moment for effect, and Kilmeade interjected "Went drinkin'?"

It may have been spontaneous, it may have been orchestrated. Either way, such irreverence toward society's warped taboos humors me, and I've been hooked since. It's a highly recommended form of multi-tasking, and I'm not necessarily a big fan of multi-tasking (link).

TDE is doing alright. Traffic dropped during December, which didn't surprise me since people are doing other things. It still hasn't fully bounced back, though. My "Unique Visitors" is stable (and actually increased in December). Nearly 4,000 different "people" (computers) visited the site during December, and that number should be stable this month. Unfortunately, it appears that people aren't coming back as often during the day, which is fine. I'm more interested in the "Unique Visitor" count. I've also learned that fluctuations in visitors could result from things I can't influence, like a major search engine reclassifying the blog or the search engine otherwise changing its software (if you're curious, I learn about such things here).

As always, I would appreciate it if you forward TDE's URL to friends and family. I don't ask for PayPal tips. Referrals from readers are preferred.

Until next week, enjoy the winter. It's only as long as you make it. (Unless, of course, it's late March and still snowing outside, but I'll save that rant for later.)
