Miscellaneous Rambling
Boy, spring slams into us with a bang. From -2 temperatures on Friday to 42 on Saturday. That's a 45-degree swing in 48 hours. * * * * * * * I started up my garden over the weekend, erecting my little portable greenhouse, moving my micro-green trays from the grow lamp to the greenhouse, then putting five self-watering containers of lettuce, cress, and arugula under the grow lamp. They should be ready for transporting outside in about three weeks. I'm hoping to have fresh greens coming by the end of March. We'll see. * * * * * * * * And on top of the weather, Daylight Savings Time is back. I love DST, even though it's getting a lot of bad press lately (e.g.) and much of the criticism seems warranted (especially in light of my grogginess this morning). Oh well, just be aware that your statistical chances of getting into a car wreck or having a heart attack go up this week. Also know that your sleep patterns will be more screwed up than you think. And then enjoy the extra sunshine after you get home from work. * * * * * * * If you're curious, I gave this advice to my brother-in-law about seed companies: "Every year, I find a new favorite seed provider. Right now, I really dig Ohio Heirloom Seeds. They're new and seem to be trying to grab market share by providing great prices, cheap shipping, but limited selection compared to the "big boys" (like Johnny's Seeds--another great company, but pretty pricey). If you're looking for basic organic seeds at a great price, I don't think those folks can be beat." * * * * * * *
Speaking of Amazon, it's one of my favorite companies, but it's really beginning to bum me out. My "Prime" membership ain't so prime any more. Increasingly, they are botching their two-day shipment commitment. I don't know what's going on, but a package I ordered on Wednesday for Marie's birthday celebration on Saturday still hasn't arrived. Frustrating. That's at least the second time this year that occurred, and I seem to recall that it happened a lot during the holiday season (but it didn't bother me, since I ordered well ahead of Christmas). Oh well, I'm still an Amazon fan, even if I have increasing concerns.
