Miscellaneous Rambling

I almost started this Rambling with this statement, "Why all the horror over Brian Williams' fabrications?" I was then going to recount how Hillary Clinton's equally-mendacious statements about sniper fire in Bosnia and running with her "head down" a few years back were quickly dimissed as "understandable" in light of her hectic schedule. I remember hearing mainstream commentators on the left and right exonerate her on a TV show ("Meet the Press," I think). A quick Google search of "Brian Williams and Hillary Clinton," however, reveals that I've simply been out of touch. Plenty of people are raising the obvious parallel. I'd provide links, but you can do the Google search yourself. * * * * * * * Does anybody really believe Brian Williams is the only liar in the mainstream media? If the pillar of the MSM would so blatantly lie, what makes us think the lower echelons won't distort, fail to report, and otherwise misprepresent what's really occurring? I don't think I'd believe anything any more if it weren't for my lucky astrology mood watch. * * * * * * * That last reference is a line from an old Steve Martin comedy album. I Googled it and found this pretty good page of Steve Martin quotes. A few of my favorites:

"Hosting the Oscars is like making love to a beautiful woman – it's something I only get to do when Billy Crystal's out of town."

"I handed in a script last year and the studio didn't change one word. The word they didn't change was on page 87."

"You kill me and I'll see that you never work in this town again." (As "Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr" in The Man with Two Brains (1983))
