I just figured NBC's Book of Daniel was offensive to all Christians, but apparently not. The Episcopalians are so happy about it that they've started their own blog (The Book of Daniel Blog) to defend it and respond to (attack) traditional Christians who find it offensive.
Based on the posts, it would appear that a few folks have written nasty letters to the site. That's unfortunate, and the nastiness is hereby officially disowned. But I chuckle at the Book of Daniel bloggers who attack the nastiness by nastily turning the table on the attackers and asserting, "Christians wouldn't say such things." That's just further nastiness under the guise of being objective and fair. It's a particularly nauseating form of self-righteousness.
The high road in such a circumstance, by the way, is to turn your cheek and take the slaps quietly. Not that I would do that, mind you (I'm not that virtuous . . . yet! I'm striving mightily!). But I would hope I could respond more creatively than, in effect, "you're not a good Christian," the favorite taunt of a pre-menopausal adolescent Christian girl while arguing with her parents.
