Miscellaneous Rambling

Another interesting list at Listverse. 10 Great Songs that Topped US Charts but Weren't Performed in English. Number One: "Dominique" by The Singing Nun. I can't say I'd ever heard it, and I can't say I'll be listening to it again any time soon. It's a pleasant song, but I prefer number 10 on the list: "Da Da Da" by Trio. That song cracked me up in the 1980s and it continues to crack me up today. Some of it, however, is in English. "What you will and what you won't. What you do and what you don't. What you can and what you caint." * * * * * * * Memoir: The cocaine-fueled Sodom and Gomorrah that was Studio 54 back in the 1980s. Decadence has long fascinated me, so I found the article very interesting, but definitely PG-13 or worse. "At 5 a.m., a group dubbed 'the Dawn Patrol,' including Dodi Fayed, Williams and Reeve, would hop in a limo provided by Fleischman and head to after-hours clubs in the Meatpacking District for 'dancing till noon.'" * * * * * * * My hat's off to daughter Meg (13). She has turned into a very good cross-country runner. She broke the middle school girls cross-country record (12:53) last week by running 12:09 (two miles). She then ran the same course in 12:06 on Saturday. Records for such thing are sketchy, but one high school cross-country high school coach in the Detroit area told me he's been asking around and speculates her score would rank her in the top ten state-wide. If you have any feel for such things, please drop me a line. She's still a little girl and has a lot of growing to do, with all that implies for a female's natural running ability, but I'm curious to know what I might have on my hands.
