**Background**: When I was the editor of *[Gilbert Magazine](http://www.chesterton.org/explore-the-acs/gilbertmagazine/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com)*, I was responsible for the "Tremendous Trifles" column. It was occasionally hard to find a sufficient amount of interesting GKC material to fill the page, so John Peterson sent me a file full of Chesterton ancedotes. They were idiosyncratic, historical, and Chestertonian. He gave me permission to use them here. I hope y'all find them as interesting as I have over the years. Most of them have never been published.

Chesterton Short(s)

In his autobiography, Conrad Noel, a close family friend of the Chestertons and who as an Anglo-Catholic priest officiated at their wedding, recalled a peculiar incident the first time he met Gilbert. It was at a Christo-Theosophic Society meeting in Sir Richard Stapley's house on Gordon Square. There, Chesterton remarked to Noel that he had recently written him a letter, which would undoubtedly be waiting him at home. On returning to his flat, Noel found Chesterton's letter. It suggested that the two men meet at the Christo-Theosophic meeting at Mr. Stapley's. \[*An Autobiography*, London, 1945, p. 66\]
