I read lots of books. I begin many more. Appears I'm not alone. The brilliant essayist and voracious reader Joseph Epstein once wrote about a book he bought: "It begins brilliantly. Another bookmark in yet another book; another book atop yet another pile of books–one of several–with bookmarks in them. . . On a quick search of our apartment, I find twenty-three books with bookmarks in them, and this does not count books I am reading for professional reasons." If, like me, you've ever despaired of your inability to finish good books because you constantly find yourself starting other good books, rest assured that you have good company. Maybe, just maybe, it's somehow a good sign.
