[This article](http://www.toledoblade.com/Retail/2014/06/08/Owens-Illinois-says-its-black-glass-bottles-are-becoming-its-new-green.html?ref=thedailyeudemon.com) articulates something I've been noticing, albeit at a less-than-conscious level: Alcohol manufacturers are increasingly using black bottles.

Why? Two reasons:

1\. Aesthetics. The black bottle projects a premium image.  
 2\. Black bottles provide just as much UV protection as amber bottles.
