H.I.F.

"The author of *An Inconvenient Truth* has swelled his net worth to about $100 million, largely due to his investments in green energy, after being worth less than $2 million during his time as Vice President, *The Washington Post* reports." [Leftist *Huffington Post* (2012)](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/12/al-gores-net-worth-green-energy%5Fn%5F1961299.html?ref=thedailyeudemon.com).

This would be like the Pope getting rich off adoption services and natural family planning.

Such profiteering should make Gore *prima facie* unreliable on the issue of global warming and, since he was, in most people's perspective, responsible for kicking off this campaign on a large level, cast all of the movement's allegations into doubt.

Analogy: I was always a huge fan of the Legionaries for Christ. After the evidence of the shameful life of its founder, Marcial Maciel, I could no longer count myself a fan, just as I wouldn't be able to count myself a fan of Christianity if it turned out Christ was, indeed, a mad man or a fraud (those, of course, being the only two alternatives to what he was: God).

Both of those analogies (especially the Christ analogy) aren't perfect, but the simple point is: When your founder is a fraud, the movement, though potentially still valid, has a serious question mark hanging over its entire existence.
