Misc. 11.28.05
I decorated the Christmas Tree with the Seven last night. It went well. I had to keep vacuuming the floor to make sure Tess (8 months) wouldn't find any hooks to shove in her mouth, but other than that, the decorating party was successful. The tree's branches are hanging with a bijillion ornaments, and it's probably tackier than Times Square in the 1970s, but we like it.
Addendum: I went home for lunch, and my wife informed me that Max (2) couldn't resist my Elvis ornament, went to play it (Viva Las Vegas) even though he'd been told to leave it alone, and broke it, thereby nearly ruining the entire holiday season. Thank goodness my wife says she can fix it with Elmer's.
Initial reports say holiday retail sales started modestly. I went to the mall in Detroit Saturday morning, and it was virtually deserted, though it was filling up a little by the time we left at 12:30.
My copy of Johnson's Dictionary, A Modern Selection arrived today. Based on a five-minute browse, it looks great, full of unique entries, like this one: "busiless. At leisure; without business; unemployed."
