From Pascal's *Pensees*: "Too much and too little wine. Give him none, he cannot find truth; give him too much, the same."

Pascal is one of those thinkers I'd like to settle down with for an entire summer: a close reading of the Pensees, a good biography or two. Simone Weil is another. They're both French.

I'm apparently collapsing mentally in my middle age.
