Alito Contest Heating Up

It would appear it's now open season on Alito. How fitting, at least for those of us in Michigan: Today is the opening day of the 2005 deer season, a de facto holiday in the mitten state.

From Washington Times:

Liberals said yesterday that Supreme Court nominee Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr.'s 1985 claim that "the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion" proves that he would try to outlaw the practice.

I'm guessing it's the firestorming evidence that the Leisure Love crowd has been waiting for. From WaPo:

As a young lawyer in the Reagan administration, Supreme Court nominee Samuel A. Alito Jr. wrote that "the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion," declared his firm opposition to certain affirmative action programs, and strongly endorsed a government role in "protecting traditional values."

NYT:

Applying for a promotion in the Reagan administration 20 years ago, Samuel A. Alito Jr. described himself as a thoroughgoing conservative "particularly proud" of contributing to cases arguing "that racial and ethnic quotas should not be allowed and that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."
