H.I.F.

[Billion dollar fines and settlements are increasing on Wall Street, *Forbes* trumpets](http://www.forbes.com/sites/halahtouryalai/2013/10/17/billion-dollar-settlements-are-the-new-black-on-wall-street/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com). I think stories like these are supposed to give the impression that Washington and Wall Street aren't in bed with one another, but it doesn't. Spouses quarrel, they negotiate, they work things out. In these settlements, Wall Street firms are merely giving to the government a small chunk of what they forced from the public with the government's help in the first place.

Gudge took from middle America, then Hudge took from Gudge. Hudge will continue to help Gudge take from middle America, with the understanding that Gudge will give to Hudge.

Once you understand the [Hudge and Gudge](http://www.chesterton.org/discover-chesterton/chesterton-briefs/hudge-and-gudge/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com) problem, and the alarming dimensions it has acquired in these United States, these stories are like water off a duck's back. They make no impression (other than frustration that many Americans still don't see it).
