I think that's the metaphysical angle to Philo's famous quote: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle."

It's interesting that Philo would come up with that formulation at the same time God would make his appearance. Philo fused Judaism with Greek philosophy and came up with a system of thought that, of all the non-Christian philosophies, might have come closest to Christian thinking. His quintessentially-Christian quote above wasn't a coincidence.

Aside: When downloading the Amazon ad below, I saw that a hardback version of The Drama is available . . . for $1,896.23. I'm not sure if I was more surprised by the high price or the fact that the seller bothered to tack 23 cents onto it.
