# Kiekegaard and Philo

"The real individual is face to face with a real God: that is the quite simple truth that Kierkegaard is never weary of repeating." de Lubac.

I think that's the metaphysical angle to Philo's famous quote: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle."

It's interesting that [Philo](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philo?ref=thedailyeudemon.com) would come up with that formulation at the same time God would make his appearance. Philo fused Judaism with Greek philosophy and came up with a system of thought that, of all the non-Christian philosophies, might have come closest to Christian thinking. His quintessentially-Christian quote above wasn't a coincidence.

*Aside: When downloading the Amazon ad below, I saw that a hardback version of* The Drama *is available . . . for $1,896.23\. I'm not sure if I was more surprised by the high price or the fact that the seller bothered to tack 23 cents onto it.*
