Only among reporters wholly ignorant of the Roman Catholic Church's history with science would find this newsworthy:
A Vatican cardinal said Thursday the faithful should listen to what secular modern science has to offer, warning that religion risks turning into "fundamentalism" if it ignores scientific reason.
Yet this story was published by the Associated Press, Yahoo News, and the Huffington Post. These folks oughtta read Thomas Woods' book (link on the right), paying close attention to Chapter Five, where they'll read about the Church's encouragement of Copernius; Father Clavius, the great mathematician who resolved the inaccuracies of the old Julian calendar (whose calculations regarding the solar year are so precise that scholars today are still stumpd as to how he did it); the role that belief in the Incarnation played in the scientific revolution; the physics of Jean Buridan; the optics of Roger Bacon; the scientific methods of Robert Grosseteste; the scientific efforts of Thierry of Chartres that could yet earn him the title as the founder of Western science; and much more.
