Miscellaneous Rambling
Well, it's only September 9th and I'm already footballed-out. Friday night, I listened sporadically to my local high school team's game on radio; on Saturday, I spent four hours attending my youngest son's first game in high temperatures; on Saturday night, I watched my two alma maters face off in Ann Arbor; on Sunday, I watched the Lions' opener. That's too much football and a real time-killer. But now that the initial opening day buzz is over, I can attend to America's most violent past-time with less intensity. * * * * * * * Yes, I'm experimenting with different font ideas. * * * * * * * Great news: My parish didn't run that 9/11 tribute this year. After twelve years, it is, hopefully, dead. I didn't need to do the Judas Shuffle.
Gardening Update
I'm guessing that I've pulled about $600 worth of produce out of my garden this year, mostly in greens and cherry tomatoes, resulting in a net loss of about $900.
That's not really accurate. I poured about $1,500 into my garden since last year's harvest, but the vast bulk of that was for capital improvements: scores of containers; the cold frames; the worm factory; worms; heat pads; miniature greenhouses; grow lamps; a few years supply worth of seeds, peat, commercial potting mix, perlite, vermiculite, and peat plugs. From this point forward, I think my total annual inputs will be less than $100. We'll see.
My next step is to figure out how to save seeds, so I can greatly reduce that input in future years, plus help make my garden self-sustaining. In the meantime, I intend to continue to stock-pile seed packets.
