*I've never been this busy at the office. There was an evening about three years ago, when I actually slept at the office, but that was basically a 72-hour rush. This bout has been going full bore since last Monday and it ain't letting up. So, just this kinda lame posting today.*

This excerpt from Nock's *Henry George* is a great quote for an election year:

"*John Adams . . . made it plain that the political organization of 1789 was not a republican, but on an imperial model; it was but 'a monarchical republic, or if you will, a limited monarchy,' for the powers of the executive were far greater than those of 'an avoyer, a consul, a podesta, a doge, a stadtholder; nay, than a king of Poland; nay, than a king of Sparta.' It was but the kind of republic which Guizot said scornfully 'begins with Plato, and necessarily ends with a policeman.' . . . \[The masterpiece of the powerful elites'\] political inventiveness \[is\] the party-system, whereby 'the people are simply permitted to choose which gang shall plunder them.'*"

(The last sub-quote comes from Henry George, which Nock lifted from a George speech.)
