This is a picture of the altar at my parish. It's quite stunning. Our priest did a great job of taking a flat-out ugly altar and transforming it into something great. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* The first angel to the right of the cross (blonde angel, blowing a trumpet) is supposedly modeled on my son, Jack. The priest used the various altar servers as models. I can't find my son, Michael, up there, but when the artist was doing the mural, Jack was serving more than Michael. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* I ran across a great series of podcasts. Search "discerning hearts." You'll find a goldmine of intelligent Catholic interviews. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* Yesterday, I listened to an interview about Edith Stein. I was reminded that she converted after reading St. Theresa Avila's *Autobiography*. This prompted me to take it off the shelf yesterday. It's an awfully large book, but the interview implied that Stein read it in a single evening. Anybody know if that's accurate? \* \* \* \* \* \* \* [The Discerning Hearts website](http://www.discerninghearts.com/?ref=thedailyeudemon.com) it pretty cool, too. I'm bookmarking it. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* Consistent with past practice, holiday blogging is light (to reflect this blog's holiday traffice). Have a great Labor Day.
