Holiday Weekend Miscellany

Summer ends like it begins, in stages: kids leave for college (return for summer), Labor Day weekend (Memorial Day weekend), little kids go back to school (get out for summer), September 21st (June 21st)). As I get older, the changing seasons remind me more and more of life: birth, maturation, old age, death. And like each stage of life, each season brings its sweetness and bitterness. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* I know the foregoing aren't novel thoughts, but they're novel for me, at some experiential level. The poets have pointed out such things for ages, but I'm feeling them only now. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* Marie talked me into going out for a drink last night after work. My headache hadn't gone away after nearly-felonious amounts of ibuprofen, so I figured a drink might help. It did.
