Holiday Weekend Miscellany

Summer ends like it begins, in stages: kids leave for college (return for summer), Labor Day weekend (Memorial Day weekend), little kids go back to school (get out for summer), September 21st (June 21st)). As I get older, the changing seasons remind me more and more of life: birth, maturation, old age, death. And like each stage of life, each season brings its sweetness and bitterness. * * * * * * * I know the foregoing aren't novel thoughts, but they're novel for me, at some experiential level. The poets have pointed out such things for ages, but I'm feeling them only now. * * * * * * * Marie talked me into going out for a drink last night after work. My headache hadn't gone away after nearly-felonious amounts of ibuprofen, so I figured a drink might help. It did. And in the process, I discovered an incredible new gin: Tanqueray Rangpur. If you drink gin and like a lime kick, you gotta try this stuff. * * * * * * * I might have to drink some more of it during the UM/Alabama game tonight. * * * * * * * Thanks to reader Kevin for sending along a humorous picture that you can see here. * * * * * * * I would've posted the picture here, but the blogger has a conspicuous copyright notice on his site. A copyright notice isn't necessary to obtain copyright protection, but it does put you on notice that the blogger might be fiercely protective of his intellectual property rights.
