While watching *Pawn Stars* last night (my dinner companion), I saw a Prohibition-era bottle of "Old Taylor medicinal whiskey" sell for $200\. I was curious if the price was remotely in the ballpark. I couldn't find any for sale on the Internet. The Puritan liquor laws at work, I'm guessing. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* High school football starts tonight. I'm going to need some of that medicine to calm my nerves. Jack is starting at strong-side linebacker and playing second string running back (behind a dinged-up first stringer). He's also the punt coverage gunner. I'm going to need three shots of the whiskey. Maybe I'll even go blind. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* I've never been a big chain store fan. I have nothing against them, but I've never developed any sort of "brand" loyalty to a chain. But that could change. I advise a lot of potential franchise buyers, and I always caution them against "being the first one" in an area. They end up contributing a lot of money to advertising campaigns that don't benefit them. But if I have a client who's interested in this franchise, I'll step to the plate and lobby hard for concessions that franchisors will often grant to the first "new guy" on the block.
