Brews You Can Use.jpg

I spent my evening escorting/driving under-privileged children to a Christmas party with Santa. Not a lot of time for blogging today. Just a few items:

Drinking Corner

Michigan doesn't do a lot right, and it's liquor laws are beyond oppressive, but it's still managing to crank out some great craft beer, led by Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo and Frankenmuth Brewery (in, well, Frankenmuth). Excerpt from recent article at the Frankenmuth site:

Last year, Michigan ranked fifth in the nation in terms of overall breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs. In fact, of the 1716 craft breweries operating in the U.S., nearly 100 of them call Michigan home.
Sure, this is great for fans of homegrown brew, but it's also huge for the long-struggling Michigan economy. The companies behind the Michigan beer industry pay out more than $24 million in wages with a total economic contribution of over $133 million to The Great Beer State. A recent survey also noted that Michigan breweries are increasing production and investing in expansions to the tune of over $70 million. On the consumer side, local craft beer sales have nearly doubled in Michigan supermarkets since 2007, jumping from $11.2 million to $22 million last year.

Some Chodorov

Great blurb at the Lew Rockwell blog: It "reminds me of Frank Chodorov's wonderful response to someone who once asked: 'But what will become of the elderly who cannot care for themselves?' Chodorov answered: 'They'll be allowed to die in the streets as was done in the past.' The questioner then asked: 'When was that ever done?,' and Chodorov came back: "Precisely!'" Link.

Received in an Email

I pointed to three old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told my friends, "That's us in 10 years".

They said "That's a mirror, dumb-s***."
