All right, we're breaking down and posting about Sheehan. As long-time readers of this blog know, we try to avoid the most publicized news items in order to leave room for different fare. We assiduously avoided Bolton, Aruba, and even the Schiavo matter (the latter travesty, with reluctance). We have avoided Sheehan because the story is getting beatin' everywhere else, plus we're not big fans of the Iraqi War but we don't coddle Sheehan types (she has "wannabe sixties child" written all over her). It's also a political matter, and we try to avoid naked politics.
But yesterday evening's announcement about Sheehan's new ally has taken this matter from the naked political to the comical, so we have to say something:
The Rev. Al Sharpton plans to join peace activist Cindy Sheehan, known as the Peace Mom, on Sunday near President Bush's Texas ranch.
Sharpton's office said Thursday he would participate in a prayer vigil Sunday with Sheehan in Crawford, Texas.
Link.
We've been big comedy fans of Al Sharpton since the Tawana Bradley matter in 1987. Even after it was discovered that Bradley had made up the rape story and had smeared herself with dog excrement to corroborate the story, Sharpton continued to pound the race card, claiming that the mere fact that the girl made up such a story shows that racism is virulent. He has since distanced himself from the TB mess, but he's still a funny guy.
