The Shuttering
I learned recently that one of my favorite bars closed in northern Michigan. My uncle owned it back in the 1980s, and it was a solid business.
We were talking about it during my family's golf outing last week, and my brother, who was recently in the area, said Michigan's smoking ban got to 'em. They lost their regulars, and others didn't replace 'em. My brother told me that bars are shutting down all over the Detroit area for the same reason.
Funny thing is, the media isn't covering it. I've read nothing about it, and no one in my family has. I ran Google searches. Nothing. Maybe supporters are questioning the propriety of passing a Fascistic piece of anti-business legislation in the midst of a recession, when bars/restaurants were already reeling, but nobody wants to be the guy who says, "Oops, maybe not a good idea." It kinda reminds of Obamacare. Regardless of its merits, this wasn't the time to implement it, but few of its supporters are stepping up and admitting their poor timing.
