Stocks, Food, and Diet

The stock market takes its biggest one-day lost since last August. There's fear back in the air. People see more and more signs of a double dip. Link.

I don't get it. This is not a double dip. If you knock someone down, then lift him up and carry him a few feet, then put him down but he falls back to the ground, did you knock him down twice? Of course not. You knocked him down once, and he never got back up, your carrying efforts (stimulus) notwithstanding.

Food Prices

I listened to a local ag radio report out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, this morning. What I heard: meat prices will not go up much, but grain prices will. I'd earlier read that fruit and vegetable price increases should be modest this year. So, the route is clear: go caveman. Meat, fruits, and vegetables. No grains. I've now lost about 20 pounds on the diet, and I feel a lot better than I was feeling six months ago.

Sigh

8th graders' field trip includes Hooters lunch. I don't need to add much, but it reminds me that I heard earlier of a mother taking her 12-year-old son to Hangover Part 2. I was floored. It was hands-down the filthiest comedy I've ever seen. I laughed pretty hard (another sigh), but it was filthy. I won't let my 14-year-old son or 16-year-old daughter see it, and I won't even watch it with my 18-year-old, for fear he'll think I endorse such filth.
