Plugging a Giant

We've mentioned that we're blogging from the shores of Lake Huron. That's only partly true. Our cottage sits on the big lake, but we don't have an Internet connection there. We go to the local McDonald's in Alpena, Michigan to blog. It's a slick set-up: You buy a hash brown for 95 cents, plug in your laptop, hook into their Wi-Fi system, and surf or blog as long as you want.

Yes, there's a cost: $2.95 for two hours. Have your credit card handy. But the connection is very fast and reliable. We're impressed.

It's our understanding that McDonald's franchisees are being encouraged (required?) to make their restaurants Wi-Fi capacitated. Eric Scheske might need triple bypass surgery soon from all the cholesterol, but he tips his hat to McDonald's for jumping on the Wi-Fi wagon quickly.
