Communist Capitalist Confusion?

We find this fascinating:

Suicide is the number one cause of death among people aged 20 to 35 in China, where an estimated quarter of a million people a year -- or 685 a day -- take their lives, state media said Monday.
Each year an additional 2.5 million to 3.5 million Chinese unsuccessfully attempt suicide, which stood as the fifth major cause of death among the country's 1.3 billion people, the China Daily said.
Disproportionate rates of suicide and depression among young people appear to be a direct result of increasing stress in China's rapidly changing society.

Link.

Has this odd Communist/Capitalist beast disoriented the Chinese, throwing them into psychological confusion? The State was supposed to take care of them, and now they're asked to make their own money--but then give it to the State. Or maybe it's a lack of family life (click here for an article about the importance of family to mental health). Or maybe it's the lack of prospects of ever finding a woman to love (see last Saturday's post about the lack of women in China; we'd link to it, but our permalink feature is currently down). We don't have an answer, but this revelation doesn't surprise us.
