The Weekend Eudemon
Another Saturday am. Another bout with grogginess. It was a rough week at the office for Eric Scheske, so he concluded it at the Elks Club, starting at 5:01, overlooking pretty Lake Omena (f/k/a Crotch Lake--no joke) and drinking tall 22-ouncers with his father and a few friends. The bartender played Sirius' All-Elvis station for Eric. Beer, view, friends, family, and Elvis. It don't get much better.
TDE had a hectic week. We changed servers. The iPower host had gone down too many times during the past few months. We also think the new server has more memory; the site seems to be loading/ moving faster now.
We also launched the Letters of the Editor page. We've already received a handful of posts, all of them good. One person has even used the page as a "side blog" for a post. We liked it. If anyone else feels like doing that, feel free. We more or less view the Letters page as a public forum, like one of those kiosks plastered with papers that you see on college campuses. Advertise your blog, root for your favorite sports team, comment on posts you see here, or shower Eric with compliments. We're open.
In fact, we might rename the page the "TDE Kiosk." We'll give it some thought (in other words, we'll bounce it off Mrs. Scheske).
That's it for now. As we mentioned previously, we're discontinuing The Punchy Journal. It was causing too much confusion. People assumed Nate Brewer (the fictional narrator who spoke in the first person) is Eric Scheske. Although Eric drew from life experiences and conversations to develop the narrative, it was not autobiographical.
We'll eventually replace it with something, but we're not sure what.
As always, thanks for reading. Please forward our URL to friends and family. If, instead, you prefer to reward our efforts with cash, e-mail us and we'll give you directions for placing unmarked fives and tens in a paper bag and dropping the parcel under a bridge where we can find it.
