More Warming

The heat wave in the Southwest is breaking record high temperatures across the region. In Las Vegas, Nevada, a new record high was set Monday when the mercury topped out at 116 degrees. It may not be out of the woods. Temperatures through Tuesday are expected to near the same levels. Naturally Death Valley, California, is leading the way with afternoon temperatures near 130 degrees, which is getting close to the national record of 134 degrees set in Death Valley on July 10th, 1913.

This might be the first time we've posted about the weather, but this is the worst hot spell Eric Scheske can recall. His interest in the weather is even more acute since he suffered from heat exhaustion Saturday evening in Chicago (heat exhaustion is the state you enter before getting heat stroke: link). He didn't realize what had happened to him until Monday morning, when he told a colleague about his nausea and incredible fatigue after walking about seven miles in blistering Chicago and drinking four beers. It wasn't the most-intelligent thing Eric has ever done, but at least he knows now what caused his steamrolled state. Now, if he can only convince the in-laws at the wedding that he was truly sick and not just being an unfriendly jerk.
