Another Gaffe

We like John Miller, but today isn't his day. First, he makes the confessional goof. Then he says this about hockey:

There may be some rule changes to create more scoring, and that's probably a good idea. But if it hasn't already happened, the day will soon come when soccer is considered our country's fourth major professional sport.

Link.

If we read him correctly, hockey's attempt to increase scoring is "probably a good idea" because it will increase interest in hockey. But if lack of scoring is a factor in hockey's demise, then soccer should never get off the ground. No sporting activity has ever featured such a dearth of scores as soccer (not counting Eric Scheske's teenage dating life).

Soccer will never become the fourth major sport in the U.S. We agree with Eric Scheske's father, who says, "Soccer is the sport of the future and always will be." Soccer is pretty good for cultures without football, baseball, basketball, or hockey. But for cultures with those major sports? We're afraid it's second rate (fifth rate, whatever).
