Halloween is over, but it's still the harvest season. Harvest-themed beers are appropriate through November 25th. I bought a six-pack of pumpkin beer last year and really enjoyed it. Among the recommended: Iron Hill's Bruce Camp Ale, Russian River's Pumpkin Sour, and Jolly Pumpkin's La Parcela. * * * * * * * And if you want to start sampling potential beers for your Thanksgiving Day celebration, this guy has some attractive suggestions. * * * * * * * Here's what you do: You drink a ton of caffeine, then get liquored up to the point of excited stupefaction. It's the new rage, supposedly, pushed along by Four Loko. Link. How bad has it gotten? It's hard to say, but Michigan banned caffeinated alcohol drinks yesterday. "The Michigan Liquor Control Commission said in a news release that it is rescinding approval of all 'alcohol energy drinks' amid widespread community concerns and the FDA's decision to further investigate the products. 'Until further research is done by the FDA, they should no longer be on Michigan shelves,' said Nida Samona, chairperson for the commission." No word on what they'll do with rum and Cokes, but I'm taking no chances.
