Deep-Fried Beer and Other Forms of Beer Violence

Oh, what the hey. I'll try it: Deep-fried beer. "The beer is placed inside a pocket of salty, pretzel-like dough and then dunked in oil at 375 degrees for about 20 seconds, a short enough time for the confection to remain alcoholic. When diners take a bite the hot beer mixes with the dough in what is claimed to be a delicious taste sensation." Another link. * * * * * * * What's the worst part? The tumble, the stabbed thigh, or the spilled beer? "A 34-year-old Bluffton woman -- apparently angry her boyfriend was drinking beer -- pushed him down a flight of stairs at their Old South apartment early Saturday before stabbing him in his thigh." * * * * * * * And in the same vein: "According to police the victim was walking along Defoors Ferry when he was approached by a man armed with a gun. Police say the man demanded the victim's beer. The victim refused to hand over the beer and was shot by the suspect." Link. * * * * * * * "Anheuser-Busch– whose Budweiser brand sales and image have taken a serious licking – today will announce plans to push free beer and a hipper Bud image to younger beer drinkers over the next several weeks." Link. That story intro almost got me to the point of respecting Budweiser, until I read the rest and realized that "younger beer drinkers" refers to people in their thirties, not late teens. * * * * * * * The trapped Chilean miners overcome governmental paternalism and get wine! Here's the story.
