Mildly interesting article in The Korea Times about troubled marriages between Korean men and Filipina women. Basically, it appears that Korean men tend to abuse the wives. Link. Here's the really interesting excerpt:
"Filipinas come here expecting their lives with their Korean husbands to be easy, but they encounter difficulties”¦ In Philippine culture, women are treated differently. Women are put on a pedestal, and they are meant to be respected as ladies and mothers. In Korea, the women's job is to take care of the husband, the house and the children,” he said.
The Philippines is a very Catholic country. Women are "put on a pedestal" there. By the Church that oppresses them? Something doesn't add up.
