Summer Beers

A long-time TDE reader sends this along: "Summer beer: Many brewers aim for lighter, sunny flavor." That's a great-looking picture, and the article is pretty good, if a lot of fluff. There's not much new in it, but there are some interesting observations, like this one: “If beer met lemonade, and they played a little Barry White, this is their kid. It isn't the kind of beer you'd like in the winter, but in the summer it is just what you want." I agree, but stay light on the lemonade. Later on, the article says 25% lemonade, which strikes me as horribly excessive. When I think "fruit and beer," I'm thinking an orange slice in my Oberon, not filling the glass part-way with juice. * * * * * * * By the way: Men who decline, on testosterone grounds, to accept a single fruit slice in their wheat beers are missing out. That beer commercial that denigrated the practice was funny, but I wouldn't take it seriously. In reality, a fruit slice can make a good beer even better.
