Gay Bashings on the Rise in NYC

We despise the gay marriage agenda, but we condemn violence against homosexuals (we understand it, but we condemn it . . . snicker, snicker). Unfortunately, it appears crimes against gays are rising, at least in NYC:

Hate crimes against gays shot up 32 percent this year from 2004, with a host of bashings marring the city's image of tolerance.

So in this city of 7 million, how many gay hate crimes are there now? Maybe 2,000? Nope:

Homophobes committed 19 bias attacks against gays through last week, up from 13 incidents over the same period last year, cops said.

Nineteen attacks in six months in a city of 7 million? We're not sure our calculator carries a decimal point far enough to show us the percentage likelihood of attack.

And how bad are these attacks?

* A thug slugged a 30-year-old California film producer in the mouth last Sunday in the East Village after shouting an anti-gay slur.
* A Staten Island man upset the borough's first gay pride parade on June 4 by hollering anti-gay remarks and knocking the hats off two female sax players.
* A man was punched in the face in Washington Heights May 27 after his assailant uttered gay-hating remarks. Another victim was beaten by two men in Bay Ridge in March.
* Anti-gay slurs were found scrawled on buildings in Crown Heights, Baychester and Morningside Heights.

As far as crime goes, it's pretty harmless stuff. No matter. At least one major network will pick up on the 32 percent increase and "neglect" to mention the women who got their hats knocked off their heads.

(Note: The story also mentions a murder, but it has not been categorized as a gay hate crime.)
