Stream of Consciousness

TDE readers encouraged me. Blame them. Besides, I have to mention: CBS sucks. If you watched the Selection Show Sunday night, you know what I mean. It's a tradition for CBS to show teams celebrating when they hear that they've made the tournament. But on Sunday, CBS kept showing schools who already knew they'd made it. They showed Cornell going wild, but Cornell won its league and therefore had an automatic birth. Why show them celebrating? You might as well show somebody receiving his weekly paycheck: it's cool, but expected and deserved. Meanwhile, the bubble team UTEP sneaked into the Tournament with a 12 seed, but CBS didn't show them celebrating at all. If this is a harbinger of CBS tournament coverage, it doesn't bode well. Maybe their ratings will finally suffer. Speaking of which: I tried to find TV ratings for the NCAA women's tournament v. the men's NIT last year, but I couldn't find any. I'll bet $10 the NIT's ratings are as good or better, at least for the earlier rounds. That's the kind of stuff I think about when walking back from weekday Masses. My office is only eight blocks from the church, so I go most mornings. I go so often, they've made me a Eucharistic minister for purposes of saying the communion service when there's no priest available. It makes me uncomfortable. If a hypocrite knows he's a hypocrite is he still a hypocrite? I know, I know: mere moral failing isn't hypocrisy, it's weakness. But still. A ten-year affair with the buxom blonde across town? (Heh, heh: That line was for my wife. I wish I coulda been an electrode on that heart monitor.) With any luck, I'll have a regular blog post tomorrow morning. I had a Pregnancy Helpline meeting last night, so I was put out of blogging commission. Nothing is on the slate tomorrow night, unless I watch the NCAA play-in game. (Incidentally, Winthrop's second string could play without jockstraps and beat the UConn women's team by 40.)
