Symptom of Consumerism

A UK magazine finds that people are inclined to rate their trendy products highly, even though they aren't very reliable. Link. Excerpt:

But despite ranking low in reliability, Dyson [vacuum cleaner] owners are still relatively likely to recommend the products to a friend. An average of 38% would recommend their Dyson, making it the fifth most popular vacuum cleaner, despite being the least reliable of those surveyed.

It's not the need for the product that drives purchases. It's the thrill of buying it. That is consumerism.
