Dougy the Future Dangerous Driver
Another common sense study, this time from Australia: Troublesome children are more likely to grow up to be dangerous drivers. Link (good luck getting in; it's a real hassle). Excerpt:
A report by the Institute of Family Studies says a greater focus on developing young children's social skills may help make them become safer drivers.
The Australian Temperament Project followed more than 1100 children from infancy to young adulthood. The study examined adults aged 19 and 20 who had been involved in high-risk driving, multiple crashes or had multiple speeding offences.
It found that as children these drivers were more likely to have been aggressive, hyperactive and less co-operative.
They were also likely to have experienced difficulties at school and engaged more frequently in antisocial acts such as violence.
Young high-risk drivers involved in multiple crashes were also more likely to have had a difficult relationship with their parents and were more likely to react explosively.
If not reigned in, they're also more likely to be tomorrow's criminals, but we'll wait for another expensive study to tell us about it.
