Not Just Catholics and Fundamentalists

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod's Sanctity of Human Life Committee says "treatment cannot be called futile if it sustains a God-given life (even if it is not a life someone would choose), such as food and water for a comatose or brain-disabled patient." The Committee suggests asking the question "Will this treatment benefit the life this patient has?" rather than "the question our society tempts us to ask: 'Is this patient's life a beneficial one; a life worth living?'" Touchstone, June 2005, p. 50.
