[New York] State Comptroller Alan Hevesi said Sunday that he wants the federal government to stop allowing convicted, high-risk sex offenders to buy Viagra at taxpayers' expense.

In July 1998, the Health and Human Services Department told states that Medicaid programs covering prescription drugs must cover Viagra, when medically necessary, Hevesi said. States not covering the drug face financial sanctions, he said.
