I distinguish between "wrongheaded progressive thinking" and merely "progressive thinking." For all men should be progressives: wanting to improve man's lot, physically and morally and spiritually. Such aspirations are good. Progressive thinking becomes wrongheaded when it (i) disproportionately emphasizes one or two of the three spheres to the detriment of the others, (ii) is so "advanced" that it disregards the current well-being of the living (the latter half is capture in Dostoyevsky's observation that he does not want to be mere manure for future generations), or (iii) kneejerk-rejects everything from yesterday (e.g., tradition, custom, and prejudice).
