Brewing Anti-Trust Problem?
InBev (Bud's adoptive father) and MillerCoors are raising prices on their beer at the same time . . . and at the same time that deflation still rules and consumers can ill afford to pay more for their alcohol. The NY Times smells an anti-trust rat and thinks the Obama administration might try to score political points by investigating it ("First we saved the economy, and now we saved beer!").
Of course, if Obama and the NY Times really wanted to keep beer prices low, they could remove the federal beer tax, but I don't see that happening.
Drinking Miscellany
Perhaps the best set of maps and graphs ever: The Best Beer in America.
Something different: An evening of wine drinking with Barry Smith, the editor of a new book, Questions of Taste: The Philosophy of Wine. Real egghead stuff, borderline snooty, but like I said, "different."
