A Blurb About SWIII

Got back about an hour ago from seeing Star Wars III. We won't discuss it, since the movie has been blog beaten to a pulp. We will, however, comment on the big line that kicked-off the anticipated fight between Obi wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. As their verbal debate prepares to escalate into a light saber battle, Obi wan responds to Anakin: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" (the quote isn't quite right, but close enough). He then draws his saber and starts the fight.

So Lucas nods to the relativism that Hollywood generally demands of its biggest names.

Thing is, in the very same sentence in which Lucas spits at absolute truths, he mentions the Sith--which are agents of the Dark Side, and the Dark Side, of course, is about as much of an absolute as you're going to find in a work of sci-fi.

Such are the problems with relativism in general, of course. Relativism can't be preached unless it's opposed to something, and as soon as that something is established, relativism stabs itself in the foot.
