3 Lousy Reasons to Consider an Antidepressant Medication. (1) You're a Detroit Lions fan. (2) You've ran out of beer and the grocery stores are closed. (3) Your wife put on a lot of weight and she never bought into the 1970s mores. No wait! Those are three good reasons to consider anti-depressants. The three reasons listed in the article are considerably more mundane.

Quirky econ fact of the day: "What most readers probably don't know is the reason [Paul] Krugman became an economist in the first place. 'I went into economics,' he wrote in an e-mail message, 'because I read Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels, in which social scientists save galactic civilization, and that's what I wanted to be.'"

You ever feel stupid and dense? I've been reading anarcho-capitalist-libertarian stuff for a couple of years now, and I've never asked this question: Why does a government with fiat money tax the populace? I'm sure the authors I've been reading address this question, but I've never seen it raised, much less answered. Perhaps the best answer from the link's comments section: ". . . if you get rid of taxes and go based solely on printing money then you lose the functionality of having a tax code and with it one of the main ways a government feels it can influence the economy. It would also amount to a flat tax which many people (myself included) would feel would be more unfair the less money you have."

I've made the same point on a few occasions, albeit only in my own mind: Quick! Think fast - who's making the most morally conservative films in Hollywood? The answer may surprise you, but it's none other than Judd Apatow. Yes, the writer-director of “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up” and the new film “Funny People” might have a reputation for creating profanity-filled R-rated raunch, but in reality they're actually films that uphold traditional values.

Judd Apatow starlet wannabes? With Twilight emphasizing virginity, role models like Taylor Swift, and new books about girls gone mild, nice girls are finishing first. Plus: VIEW OUR GALLERY of the new good girls. My kids love iCarly. I'm glad to see its star made the list of good girls:

As one of the faces of Nickelodeon, Miranda Cosgrove has given the Disney crew a run for its money. The 16-year-old actress first came to prominence as the sassy little sister in Drake and Josh and then went on to star in her own tween sitcom iCarly. (She also had a memorable role in Jack Black's School of Rock.) Offscreen, she's dedicated to family and friends, and is homeschooled.
