James Kushiner writes at Mere Comments:
An incident that took place at Chicago's Holy Name Cathedral on Sunday was not covered by the major local papers, as far as I can tell, but was front page news in a paper that I found on the bus this morning (Chicago Free Press -- A Common Voice for a Diverse Community; yes, it's basically a "gay" paper):
"Obeying the Vatican and Cardinal Francis George, celebrants at Chicago's Holy Name Cathedral denied communion to two people wearing rainbow-colored sashes May 15, then watched as others receiving communion shared their wafers with the Rainbow Sash protestors."

Hmmm, the second time the Eucharist has been abused lately. First eBay, now "regular" Catholics (one of the secondary distributors was a nun, but no surprises there). What to do? Lots of things, but maybe it's time that Catholics return Communion to a reverential rite: one of kneeling and receipt in the mouth rather than a forty-yard dash. It would lengthen the Mass, yes, but if we slashed back on the vapid songs (they're hard to call "hymns") and other fluff, we'd be back to the traditional 45-minutes that folks enjoyed before the Masses started emptying out in the 1970s.
Thanks to Mary Kochan at Catholic Exchange for putting the idea in our head. Link.
