Photos of bikini-clad Miss Universe 2005 contestants in front of some of Bangkok's famed Buddhist sites have irked protectors of Thai culture and prompted some self-censoring of the pageant's publicity footage, media reports said on Wednesday.

The offending photos were taken on Tuesday as the contestants took a river cruise along Bangkok's Chao Phrya River, posing in their scanty bikinis as they passed well-known Buddhist temples on the river banks such as Wat Arun - the Temple of Dawn.
