Best Pilsner Ever?
A TDE regular of German descent writes: "This is the local brew that my family quaffs in Kappelrodeck, Germany (Black Forest). I might be sentimental, but it's the best pils I have ever drank (and continue to drink on my travels)."
Next time I'm at the liquor store 20 miles down the road, I'll look for it. In the meantime, this could make a pretty good TDE feature: Send me the name of your favorite beer (email on the left). I'll feature it, unless it's Budweiser.
And if you make the jump across the Rhine, the same reader also writes: "I regularly drink wheat beers (with the yeast left in) from the major Munich breweries (Lowen, Paulaner, Spaten, etc)”¦.Schneider weisse is the best. My first taste was with the tradition radish (a giant white radish, spiral cut, and salted) and with weisswurst (veal sausage)." Needless to say, he hasn't been kissing many girls lately, but that's alright. A good beer is worth that sacrifice any day.
That's it for today. While most of America gets ready for a three-day weekend, I'm giving back this weekend: to the office. There'll be no time for drinking, but that's alright. I'm grateful for my job and I'm actually looking forward to an unmolested two days at the office. I hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth. No matter how botched America has become, it is still the noble experiment with a lot going for it.
