I got excited, then quickly dejected: Family-friendly sports cars. Finally, a cool-looking vehicle for my seven children and wife. No such luck. They all max out at two children. Obvious case of discrimination, but I'm not sure familysizism is prohibited by the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Well, he's better-looking than Rosie: "Genial comic Drew Carey was tapped Monday to replace silver-haired legend Bob Barker on the CBS daytime game show "The Price is Right." The deal was set Monday afternoon shortly before a taping of CBS' "Late Show" with David Letterman, where he confirmed it."

I got some good feedback on that Talking Heads video link yesterday, so here are two more 80s videos: Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes" and B-52s "Rock Lobster."

San Francisco sleeps easier tonight:

One of the most notoriously homophobic figures in reggae and dancehall music has agreed to stop singing violently anti-gay lyrics. Buju Banton - whose 1990s hit Boom Bye Bye advocates the shooting of gay men - has signed the "reggae compassionate act" set up by the gay rights campaign group Stop Murder Music, after a three-year campaign to bring him into line . . . Banton has agreed to not make homophobic statements in public, release new homophobic songs or authorise the re-release of previous homophobic songs. . . . Banton has been a focus for gay activists since the release of Boom Bye Bye, in which he sings about shooting gay men in the head, pouring acid on them and burning them alive.

I'm not exactly a gay sympathizer, but I think it's safe to say Banton went a bit far.

We're inching (heck, striding) toward making computer ownership a fundamental human right:

A non-profit group that designs low-cost computers for poor children hopes to start selling multimedia laptops to consumers by Christmas, a foundation executive said on Monday.
The One Laptop Per Child Foundation's rugged XO laptop could initially sell for just $350, or twice its production cost, although the group is also considering a $525 price tag, said OLPC chief technology officer Mary Lou Jepsen.

A few years ago, the U.S. Bankruptcy Code was amended to make one's television an exempt asset from creditors, along with food, clothing, a small amount of equity in one's home, and various small items like hand tools. Is the computer soon to become a necessity?

Another offspring of a sex glutton renounces the whole promiscuity thing (I know there have been others, though I admittedly can't think of them right now):

[T]he daughter of Erica Jong, whose book "Fear of Flying" practically launched the sexual revolution, [was interviewed]. Jong glamorized promiscuity as random guilt-free sex with strangers.
"When you're 12," says Molly Jong Fast, "there's nothing funny about your mother's fourth wedding." Molly describes her own promiscuity as a mistake. "I was sold a bad bill of goods." Molly is married and signs her e-mails "mother of Max," making sure you understand that she's first a mother. So do a lot of other young moms.
