Baseball and beer, again. Michael's (8) game finished about 25 minutes early, so we picked up a pizza and went home and drank beer on the porch. A friend joined us for about two hours. A pleasant evening. I drank a handful of Oberons. They went down very well, and I feel fine this morning. If you haven't tried this beer, you should. It's solidly in the summer wheat beer vein. Very good stuff.

Today, I work on a book review (though I gotta finish reading the book first), nap, attend a party, read, and maybe go to the office. The whole weekend is still kinda jelling, so I'm not sure what I'm doing. It's a nice change. Normally, my weekends are mapped out in detail.

Anecdotal Evidence of Why I'm a Catholic, episode 1,890,311: A woman who has served as minister at St. John's United Methodist Church in Baltimore for five years has been re-appointed to the position ”“ as a man, according to church officials.

Worried about getting wiretapped? There's a way to defeat it: Play a c-pitched tone. The article is poorly written, but it seems that the tone will trick wiretaps into thinking your conversation has ended. I'm not sure whether to take the article entirely seriously (but these folks have). Who's worried about wiretaps besides terrorists, drug dealers, paranoids, and midget porn purveyors?

New book from Sophia Institute Press: The One-Minute Apologist. I haven't seen it, but if it's as nifty as Montague Brown's One-Minute Philosopher, it's worth the price.

This day in history: The Dow Jones index began on this day in 1896. It closed at 40.96. Let's hope that level doesn't return any time soon.

Kinda interesting: Ghostbusters as right-wing propoganda. Excerpt:

From start to finish, Ghostbusters is a powerful brief against the “reality-based community.” The academic establishment and the municipal powers-that-be have failed to tackle a grave threat, namely the menace posed by ancient Sumerian deities summoned by effete post-Christian necromancers who flourished amidst the moral turpitude of Art Deco New York.

Leno was on fire Thursday night:

Congratulations to republican presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani. He celebrated a wedding anniversary today. He also has another one tomorrow, and two on Monday, if I'm not mistaken.
It's starting to get nasty out there on the campaign trail. A new book out by veteran Democratic strategist Robert Shrum claims when asked about gay rights, John Edwards said he was "not comfortable around those people." Do you believe that? How does a guy who spends 400 bucks to get his hair styled not like gay people?
Some of Michael Jackson's personal processions will be auctioned off in Las Vegas the end of this month. The one thing that Michael won't be parting with though, is his Pinocchio doll. Do you know about this? Michael will not sell his Pinocchio doll. You know, on the off chance, that one day it might became a real live boy.
